History

Part of Beijing Jade Youth Hostel was built on the site of former royal doctor (taiyi, in Chinese) Mr. Meng's courtyard who served the emperors in the Qing Dynasty. In ancient times, Beijing was much smaller. People of royal families lived inside the Forbidden City, while their service people lived around it including the doctors who were highly-respected. The doctors chose the best location near Forbidden City in order to visit their families easier out of work. Therefore, Jade Youth Hostel is the closest Youth Hostel to the Forbidden City. Guests can see the Forbidden City from some rooms on the 4th floor of Jade Youth Hostel.
