History

Part of Beijing Jade Youth Hostel was built on the site of former royal doctor (taiyi, in Chinese) Mr. Meng's courtyard who served the emperors in the Qing Dynasty. In ancient times, Beijing was much smaller. People of royal families lived inside the Forbidden City, while their service people lived around it including the doctors who were highly-respected. The doctors chose the best location near Forbidden City in order to visit their families easier out of work. Therefore, Jade Youth Hostel is the closest Youth Hostel to the Forbidden City. Guests can see the Forbidden City from some rooms on the 4th floor of Jade Youth Hostel.

Backpackers' No. 1 Pick

"We know backpackers better!," said the Sales Manager Miss Zhang in an interview by the Great Wall Adventure Club. "About 83% of our customers are from overseas and that has been a tradition since 2005," said Zhang, "We would like to keep it."

Contrast to the luxury of high-end hotels and to the economy of least-equipped youth hostels, Beijing Jade Youth Hostel knows what a backpacker truly needs and provides the most facilities for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Jade hostel has coin laundry, which is important for backpackers who are on a long trek, for example, those who take international train from Moscow to Ulan Bator and to Beijing. "These customers have a big laundry to do because they could not find running water easily in Mongolia," said Zhang, "We also offer free bicycle rental so that our customers can ride around the areas of Forbidden City and Wangfujing nearby."

Jade Youth Hostel's Western-styled management guarantees you are comfortable with the way you live at home. The Chinese hospitality will let you experience your mission to know the ancient culture by your close-touch with Beijingers living in the old residential lanes, which have become China's cultural heritage under governmental safe-guarding.
